 Computer/Internet Access

Student’s vocabulary will be issued via YouTube.

Since American Sign Language (ASL) is a visual language, it must be expressed through vision, and through video recordings. Books do not always depict the full picture of movement, handshape, or body language that is needed to perform the sign and language properly.

Due to this, students must have access to the internet and a computer.

If the vocabulary has been given to you in internet format, such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc, and the student are unable to access the internet on a regular basis to complete the assignments and homework, a DVD can be made for the student at a small cost.

A loss of a video link is not an acceptable reason to not complete assignments given and can hinder the students learning and progress.

If a link has been provided and then lost, a simple email to signingmoorewithterry@gmail.com letting Ms. Moore know and she will provide the link again for the student

Grading Policy

Beyond participation and engagement in class, the students are expected to review vocabulary and notes taken in class on a daily basis. Two important tests will be given during the course of the semester in the form of a Mid-Term, and Final Exam. These two tests show vocabulary knowledge receptively, and lets the student know where they stand in regards to the bulk of the class goal, which is to learn vocabulary in American Sign Language.

Beyond the tests, there will be small quizzes during the semester to keep the students engaged and show them where they may need to work in regards to vocabulary wise.

Participation & Engagement in the class is very important and makes up a large part of the student’s overall grade in the class. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

→ Answering vocabulary questions when asked

→ Maintaining eye contact

→ Speaking at a moderate level tone (no whispering, mumbling, or low-tones)

→ Expressing and noting when they are unsure of a sign

→ Questions asked during class time

→ Arriving to class on time

→ Pen & Paper

→ Not speaking during activities when instructed not to.

Communication Policy

Ms. Moore will communicate to students via the student’s email account given to Ms. Moore, as well as emails sent to parent’s emails as well with updates regarding the student’s progress and any issues that may occur.

It is expected if a student has been told an email has been sent out, but does not receive it, they or their parents are expected to email the instructor to make sure there is not a broken email chain.

Late Work/Make-up Policy

If an assignment has been given and the student does not submit it when it is due, as well as if the assignment is incomplete or never turned in, the student will receive an automatic F on the assignment and the parent will be notified.

If there are extenuating circumstances, extensions can be made, but the instructor must be contact immediately and not after the F has been given.

Make-up exams/test are not given.
